August 18th was a Thursday
I love Jason Polan’s work (you see a much crappier product of that inspiration in Fastest Possible Drawings and the sketches I’ve been posting lately). What’s particularly great with this drawing is to see his “NYC people” living inside a scene with perspective and detail that I haven’t seen in his day-to-day work. Even the lion looks like a native New Yorker, just doing his thing, but he and the other characters interact with and inhabit a world with structure and depth, and it makes them all the more wonderful. Love it love it love it.
