I never was a captive of others’ ideas about me. I’ve been like that my whole life and it’s saved me a lot of trouble. Even when it came to writing music, I didn’t care what people thought. You know, there’s a lot of music in the world—you don’t have to listen to mine. There’s Mozart, there’s the Beatles; listen to something else. You don’t have to listen to this. You have my blessings; go on, listen to something else—I don’t care.
