Replying to Part II, DJNewStyle says:

If the problem is anonymity, the solution is mandated registration.

But requiring users to register creates its own complications.

I think that commenting is rotten at the core, and the solution is to just remove it entirely. Adding complexity will only create additional headaches.

Registration to comment is fine if you turn comments on their head like this. With any of these short-form publishing tools, you can broadcast in a vacuum or engage in dialogue, but you’re always accountable for your words—your reputation isn’t spread out among dozens of blogs, sniping from the marginalia.

Accountability is the killer app.
